Barry Schwartz: The paradox of choice

In Schwartz's estimation, choice has made us not freer but more paralyzed, not happier but more dissatisfied.

  1. It's been a great talking! I had been, by the way, talking to an Indian friend, who told me that they aren't "free" to decide if they want to marry or not. They actually "have to" marry, and have to wait the elder brothers have married first. The only thing they can choose is the partner, and even then, your parents could do that if you can't. But, although they can't decide, he's told me that they're happy. After that, I listened to this talking. I couldn't agree more.
